Several weeks ago I was writing this wonderful blog post in my head that was going to actually be insightful and noteworthy. It was going to be my masterpiece about the stress of the holiday season and the impact on my teeny, tiny business. I was going to touch on why I had not produced any new items for my store and why it had been so long since my blog had been updated. This blog post will never be, you see. Instead my brain and my world was temporarily turned upside down by a little bit of ice.
Better make that a whole bunch of ice. The worst ice storm in almost 20 years hit my little part of the world on January 13th & 14th. At the time of impact I believe almost 95% of the city was without power. My street was only out for 2 days but there are still thousands of households in the metro area that are still without electricity. It's amazing the number of things we all take for granted. Before this happened I couldn't imagine going days without lights, TV's and computers. I still can't fathom what it must be like for the people without any way to heat their homes. Over the past 12 days the temperatures have barely ventured over the freezing mark. Most of the ice is gone now but signs of the destruction will linger for months with all of the downed trees and limbs. What a blessing that I have a warm home and a computer with internet access. Who cares if I had to go 12 days without it? At least I know I can survive without even the most mundane necessities. And as far as eleventwentyseven goes, it will still be around but it might take some extra time to shake off the frostbite.
