Tomorrow's my birthday. The day of the year that I look forward to the most. I am about to start the last year of my 20's. I guess it's bittersweet but it seems as if the big day will come and go with a minimum of fanfare. If you know me and you haven't gotten me a gift or you forgot once again because of Thanksgiving, here's a link to my latest Etsy Treasury list.
If you don't know me but you would still like to do something nice you can check out the big 11/27 sale going on right now through midnight on November 27th. All bottlecap magnet sets are super-duper sized. Buy any set and get TWICE the number of caps. That's right, if you buy 4 you'll get 8, with 6 you'll get 12 and if you go for the 8 caps you will get 16. How can you go wrong? Seriously. Did I mention my holiday free gift wrapping promotion? If you buy anything in my shop and mention that it's a gift I will wrap it FOR FREE!

So Sorry
I am the world's worst blogger. The worst! I just discovered today that my friend Anne left a comment on my previous post THREE WEEKS AGO! I'm sorry Anne. So sorry. I'll try and be better, I promise.

A New Beginning for Fall
So, I'm trying to take my shop in a different direction. I've placed much of my shop in edit mode because I'm just not sure if those items reflect what I am trying to get across with my work. While I really enjoyed the glass magnets that I had created, they sold very, very poorly and their time in eleventwentyseven had to come to an end. Also, I feel that some of the jewelry that I had listed in the past few months was just not creative enough. Perhaps I have been obsessing way too much over Project Runway. Maybe I have just become my very own Nina Garcia/Michael Kors hybrid and I'm trying to turn every thing around before Heidi can say "Auf Wiedersehen!"

Windchimes for Everyone!
I've been wanting to make windchimes out of silverware for years. My dad has a set that I've always admired and I've been hoarding extra, unmatched pieces with the thought that I would one day follow through. Well, several months ago was over at my aunts house and she had her own silverware windchime. I talked with her about it and finally got the inspiration to make my own. When I found a set of silver knives at a flea market it was a sign for me to finally get it done. The trouble became finding the right drill bit to get through the thick knife handles. Using my cordless drill I was able to get two done until the drill bit broke and pieces of metal flew through the garage. I bought another complete set of bits (they're cheap...hence the breakability) and went about trying to get a couple more holes drilled. When those bits broke almost immediately it dawned on me that I needed to make a more substantial investment in this enterprise. So, I drove out to one of those big home supply stores and bought 2 bits for the price I had been paying for 12. I was nervous that these bits would be just as fragile as the others but they worked like champs. They cut through the silver and steel like buttah. With the holes drilled I set about completing the bending of forks before I could string the pieces up with glass and silver beads on fishing line. I was so proud of these things that I drove all over town showing them off to friends and family. Now I'm on a mission to find more abandoned silverware for more windchimes. Windchimes for everyone!

Soda Jewelry
Here's some of the bottlecap jewelry that I made this weekend. I am now selling bottlecap bracelets and earrings in my shop. If Tab is not your beverage of choice do not fret because the choice is yours. I just happened to make Tab as my prototype because a friend of mine absolutely LOVES Tab and I told her she would be my guinea pig for the great bottlecap jewelry experiment. I also made a stretchy Tab bracelet but that concept will need some serious tweaking before it can go public.

Superman & Wonder Woman
For some reason I've always loved Superman and Wonder Woman. When I was a kid I tried to fly like Superman and I still have the scars to prove it. I watched Super Friends every day and would draw pictures of my favorite superheroes. I loved the first 2 Christopher Reeve Superman movies so much that I pretty much destroyed the videotapes from excessive viewing. The one thing that I was never ever in to was comic books. Lately though I have started looking at comics but not to read but to destroy in the name of art.
These are some pics of glass marble magnets that I have been making from Superman and Wonder Woman comic books that I bought at flea markets. The Superman comics are only about 10-13 years old and have much brighter, vivid scenes. The only Wonder Woman comic I was able to find is over 20 years old and features more muted tones and distinctly older style of graphics. Several sets of both characters are available in my Etsy shop. Click the "Etsy Shop" link on the sidebar to get there.
While on the subject of Superman and Etsy, I just have to share a pic of my favorite earrings. I bought them from danirockyo on Etsy back in February and I now wear them all the time. I am always getting compliments on them and I can't wait to wear them to see the new Superman movie this summer!

Coin Purse, Attempt #1
These are pics of my first attempt at making a coin purse. I have needed a coin purse for some time but could never find one that I felt was really "me." I had no idea initially how to work with the zipper and ended up destroying 2 of those suckers before finally getting close to right. I could have consulted the internet or something but what fun would that have been? Sorry about the blurry pics. I was in a hurry and it was terribly overcast today so I didn't fuss with lighting like I normally would have.

Adventures in tote bags, Thursday edition
I love this bag! The handles are sturdier than version 1.0 and I did a much better job with the stitching around the top edge. It will be hard to part with this bag but I think it will have to go in my shop. Another good thing is that the time it took to make this bag compared to the first decreased significantly.
